FAANEGA also thanked those who prepared food for the volunteers - Lety Sonon, Cesar Escalante, Frances Fincher, and Gigi Magsalin.

During the party, a slide show of the pictures, showing the volunteers in action, was shown.

The Volunteer appreciation was a great success, thanks to the artistic talents of Frances Fincher (for transforming the St. Joseph Parish Hall into an elegant venue and for preparing most of the food) and Nattie Demesa (for leading the line dancing enjoyed by the attendees). Thanks also to Bunny and Raquel Hilario (for providing the sound system), to Gigi Magsalin (for helping in the preparations), Sonny Fincher and Cesar Escalante (for bringing most of the party items in the Parish Hall).

A big thank you as well to those who attended the party. Your support to the volunteers and to our association is very much appreciated.

Halloween Fun!

Our Halloween party was a blast! The place was well decorated - courtesy of Rene, Rutchelle, Esther, & Cesar, with the help from our teeners - Patrick, EJ, & their friend Adrian - and a little help from Mac, too. It was a real feast with the variety of food and drinks that were brought to the party. As expected, the kids came in their cute and colorful costumes. Some adults, too, were playful enough to come dressed up in their favorite characters. You can tell by the animated conversations that the gathering was also a perfect time to catch up with friends.

The Halloween party was not complete without the costume parade and contest. The judges (Linda Porquez, Manny Altares, Fred Lao, Rutchelle Enriquez, & Rene Estomo) had a hard time choosing the winners as costumes were really beautiful, colorful, and interesting. In the end, the judges chose two first places (in the 0-9 category) - the pretty Pink Princess and the cute Ballerina in black (who danced gracefully just like her grandma!). The other winners for this category were Harry Potter, Robin, Black Spiderman and the Pink Fairy with wings.

For the 10-15 category, the captivating Cleopatra won first prize, Acrobatic Skeleton was second, and the Rocker Skull came in as third.

Adult costume contest was equally enchanting. Joe Erasga, as the Grim Reaper, had the greatest impact on kids. As soon as they saw him, kids ran to their parents and started crying! It was indeed Halloween time looking at the black hooded guy with red eyes and scary hook! No wonder Joe got the first place, followed by his seductress lady Dracula, in second place, and Ms. Pumpkin, in third place.

After the costume contest the kids had their usual games. The adults had fun playing the musical chairs and the statue dance as well. The highlight of the evening for kids was definitely the "trick or treat" walk. The community did not disappoint the kids as they were ready with lots of candies and chocolates to hand out.

Overall, this year's Halloween celebration was a big success. All kids went home tired, but happy with bags full of goodies.

Thanks to all those who attended the party. Thanks for the food, the drinks, and the candies. Extra thanks to those who stayed behind to clean up the place. Without all your participation and help, our party wouldn't be as fun, and delightful.

FAANEGA's APPEAL for HELP to TYPHOON ONDOY's VICTIMS in the PHILIPPINES

Dear Kababayans,

As we all know, Metro Manila experienced severe flooding due to typhoon Ondoy. Our kababayans back home are in need of immediate assistance. To show our support, FAANEGA decided to send both monetary and in-kind assistance to the Philippines.

MONETARY

FAANEGA is going to send $2,000 to the Philippines through the American Red Cross (ARC) in Atlanta. Consul R. Donato, in his memorandum dated September 29, 2009 (appealing to the Filipino community in Georgia to help the flood victims) suggested sending contributions to the Philippines via the ARC. An acknowledgment letter will be sent to the donors for tax records within 7-10 days.

FAANEGA members and friends who wish to send monetary contribution can give the money to Lily Paguio (Tel #706-543-0186) on or before October 5, 2009. Please make the check payable to FAANEGA with the note "Philippine Relief/Typhoon Ondoy" written on the memo line. Please note that any member contribution will be an addition to the amount stated above.

IN-KIND

We will also collect in-kind donations to be sent to the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) through FOREX. FAANEGA will shoulder the shipping costs.

FAANEGA wishes to send the following items as requested by the PNRC:

Food items: Rice, noodles, canned goods, sugar, iodized salt, monggo beans

Medicines: Paracetamol, antibiotics, analgesic, oral rehydration salts, multivitamins and medications to treat diarrheal diseases

Non-food items: Bath soaps, face towels, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, plastic mats, blankets, mosquito nets, water purification tablets

PNRC requests that we refrain from sending clothes as they already have enough of these items.

To those who would like to give in-kind donations, please drop them off at the following locations on or before October 9, 2009. Kindly attach or put your name in the bag of donated items so that FAANEGA can properly acknowledge the donation for tax purposes.

We look forward to your favorable response to this appeal. Thanks in advance for your generosity.

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

Maraming salamat po!
